Australian culture gets a Hollywood makeover in this vibrant, colourful and hilarious musical from the creators of You’re History!
Lucky and Byron are young Australian filmmakers passionately devoted to turning our history and heritage into an epic motion picture. But when sleazy producer Dingo steals their baby, the script is hawked to Hollywood and cultural sensitivity goes out the window in favour of box office bonanza.
Ned Kelly becomes a shoot-em-up action hero, the Eureka Stockade turns kung fu, The Man from Snowy River goes comic book superhero and undead zombie schoolgirls invade a picnic at Hanging Rock. There’s even a Bollywood dance number when the First Fleet hits an iceberg and winds up in Bombay!
With an extraordinarily embarrassing premiere looming, Lucky must race the clock to convince her fellow filmmakers that Aussie culture is worth fighting for!
Lucky has its audience in stitches with cultural clichés lambasted and local stereotypes lampooned but at its heart is a magically moving tale of artistic passion. A soaring score and song list make this a dazzling delight.
It’s a show that kids absolutely love to perform and adults find irresistibly entertaining. There are dozens and dozens of crackling characters with speaking parts big and small and a surplus of gutsy parts for both girls and boys. To top it off, it’s a cinch to rehearse with easily divisible scenes.
A terrific performance DVD and extensive production booklet will guarantee your show runs smoothly and optional mixed media performance resources are available, providing animated graphics and sound effects. A great opportunity to combine forces with the film and television unit! You can also download the images for the flags mentioned in the script as Jpegs from the "download perusal materials" button, above.
This is a magnificent musical with toe-tapping songs and a passionate heart that your audience will adore – Lucky is without a doubt the quintessential Australian school musical…..so….Get Lucky!
